Indian Pipe
oil on canvas
6x8"
$325

Indian pipes are unusual in that they have no chlorophyll. Known as saphrophytic, they obtain nutrients not from photosynthesis, but extract it from dead organic material, decaying roots and other plant matter. Also called Ghost Flower, Indian Pipes are an ethereal find out in the woods and in Appalachian folklore were thought to help mend broken hearts.
